Alex Wek, a refugee from Sudanese, as gained notoriety through her success as a supermodel and designer. Drawing on her own experience she has publicly spoken out in support of refugees. Also she has remained strong in her identity as a dark-skinned women in the fashion industry, by challenging it's tradition of what is deemed beautiful. This is the 2nd portrait painting I have done of her. For me, she exudes an inner beauty and strength. I have given her earrings that depict the hands of Isaac Newton, as I often layer components from our past for spiritual, joyful, political, social and historic reasons.
Isaac Newton well known mathematician is not commonly known for his passion with Alchemy. Alchemy was a chemistry and speculative philosophy practice in the Middle Ages and Renaissance that was concerned with changing base metal into gold.
